Engagement of youth is vital to building inclusive and sustainable societies. In the Middle East and Africa, youth make up the largest part of the population. This presents immense opportunities but also serious challenges. In Africa alone, 12 million young people enter the labour market each year, while only 3 million new jobs become available. Work and education pose even greater challenges for young refugees.
The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set up the Youth at Heart virtual forum to address these issues. By hearing from young people and discussing their needs and ideas with partners and stakeholders, we can offer the rising generation better prospects.
Youth are particularly affected by the crisis resulting from the current pandemic. At the same time, they are often the ones with the innovative ideas we need.
During the afternoon of 2 November, the virtual forum will be hosting lots of inspiring sessions in which we seek to interact, learn and collaborate on ways to improve youth participation and future prospects. We’ll be doing this using 4 separate channels to which you can tune in, and provide suggestions and input. The more interaction, the better!
